Botanical Bundle Dyeing on Wool and Cotton with Maeve Moran - September 20 2026
Date:
Time: 10:00 - 15:00
Location: Outbloom flower farm, Betws Bledrws
A day at Outbloom exploring seasonal dyes through bundle dyeing - a simple natural dyeing technique that creates vibrantly-patterned fibres through steaming bundles of flowers and fibre.
The day will involve:
- A short introduction to natural dyes and a tour of Outbloom with John and Maeve that focuses on the wild and cultivated dye plants that lay within.
- Picking your own fresh dye materials to use in your bundles (alongside other dried material)
- A demonstration of the bundle dyeing process and dyeing your own bundles! Each person will have 100g of pre-treated wool to play with across 3-4 bundles.
- Tea, cold drinks and cake! Please bring your own lunch
You will learn:
- A brief history of natural dyeing and its techniques
- How to select appropriate fabrics and dyestuffs for natural dyeing
- How to mordant (pre-treat) fibres to ensure lightfastness and influence colour
- How to prepare, tie and steam dye bundles
- How to care for naturally-dyed fibres
Cost of £85 per person includes all materials and preparation.
Please note that there is an uneven and slightly steep walk from the workshop to the flower farm that involves steps. Please do not hesitate to get in touch to discuss accessibility concerns.
